Torres Novas ( meaning ‘New Towers’)  is just a short 20 minute drive from Casa Rosden. Built around the 12th Century Castle. this pretty town is a mix of the  ’historic old’ with a maze of cobbled narrow streets and the modern ‘tree lined’ avenues of the new.

The Medieval castle is now classified as a National Monument, and the remains of the walls and towers are well maintained.

Little is known about the history of Torres Novas, but there is evidence of a Roman Settlement in the area, the remains of which can be seen at ‘Vilo Cardilio’, just a few kms from the town, which is open ‘free’ to the public. The ruins received their name from one of the many Mosaics found at the excavations.
