The Sabor da Pedra Restaurant is based in a perfect setting overlooking the Castelo do Bodo Lake in Alverangel, which is close to Tomar, in Central Portugal. It is well signposted from the road to Alverangel and there is car parking for several cars.

The owners Aristides and Anna Marie are very welcoming, friendly and attentive.

The restaurant serves both lunches and Dinners.

We have visited the Restaurant twice, both in the evening for dinner. On both occasions , we have found the food to be excellent. Prices are a little higher than most at around €50 per couple for ‘house’ starters and bread, main course and dessert, with a bottle of house wine, but it is a lovely place for a special occasion.

The restaurant is spotless. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and in the recent cold weather, the log fire has been an added bonus ! The decor is simple, and traditional, with soft lighting and the tables, beautifully laid. The main courses include, substantial ‘Sirloin’ steaks, ‘Polvo’ (Octopus ) and ‘Porco Preto’ ( Black Pork). Desserts are more stylish than served at most Portuguese restaurants and include a ‘homemade Raspberry’ Tart and Tiramisu…….both delicious!

Outside the Restaurant there is a garden with tables for summer eating and drinking whilst enjoying the splendid views of the lake.

‘ New’ in Tomar is the Lodge Esplanada Pasteleira & Restaurante, situated above the pharmacy not far from Modelos. There is a separate Pasteleira area where you can enjoy a coffee and  pastry or visit the Restaurant which is open at both lunchtimes and in the evenings.

Heated with ‘Chimineas’ in the winter. Comfortable and modern decor with good presentation. Helpful Staff who also speak English.Excellent 2 choice  ( Meat or Fish ) ‘Prato do Dia’ for €7 excl. drinks.( Soup,  main, sweet and coffee) Or you can choose from the extensive  menu.

Please Note: Unusually for most Portuguese Restaurants now, Smoking IS allowed here.

Another new restaurant has opened  and is near Cabaços, which is around 45minutes from Casa Rosden.

It is called ‘Azeite & Companhia’ and we are hearing some very positive comments about it ! We are hoping to try it out ourselves very soon……… The menu we understand has a ‘Mediteranean’ flavour and is ‘refreshingly different’ from most of the usual Portuguese fare. Open at lunchtimes 12.00 -2.30pm  serving a varied ‘Prato do Dia’ and in the evenings from 7.30-10.30pm. Closed on Tuesdays.  Bookings can be made.
