The Sabor da Pedra Restaurant is based in a perfect setting overlooking the Castelo do Bodo Lake in Alverangel, which is close to Tomar, in Central Portugal. It is well signposted from the road to Alverangel and there is car parking for several cars.
The owners Aristides and Anna Marie are very welcoming, friendly and attentive.
The restaurant serves both lunches and Dinners.
We have visited the Restaurant twice, both in the evening for dinner. On both occasions , we have found the food to be excellent. Prices are a little higher than most at around €50 per couple for ‘house’ starters and bread, main course and dessert, with a bottle of house wine, but it is a lovely place for a special occasion.
The restaurant is spotless. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and in the recent cold weather, the log fire has been an added bonus ! The decor is simple, and traditional, with soft lighting and the tables, beautifully laid. The main courses include, substantial ‘Sirloin’ steaks, ‘Polvo’ (Octopus ) and ‘Porco Preto’ ( Black Pork). Desserts are more stylish than served at most Portuguese restaurants and include a ‘homemade Raspberry’ Tart and Tiramisu…….both delicious!
Outside the Restaurant there is a garden with tables for summer eating and drinking whilst enjoying the splendid views of the lake.
Gold Restaurante - Rua Everard 91, Tomar. Tel 00351 249 324 233 - In the centre of Tomar - near the old bridge. Newly opened.
For that special occasion we recommend ’Gold which is a 1st Class Restaurant, in the centre of Tomar just 10 minutes from Casa Rosden.
I recently reviewed this Restaurant after spending a wonderful evening there.

”It is Monday evening in Tomar and whilst most Restaurants are closed, the ‘Gold Restaurant’ in Rua Everard, is ‘alive and vibrant’, buzzing with close to 40 customers, mostly ex-pats with some Portuguese friends, eagerly anticipating what was to be an delightful food experience, enjoyed by all ! This was a ‘themed Arabic’ evening hosted by Mário and Andreia, the owners, which offered a set menu at just €12,50, for a starter of ‘cheese wafer, with shirazy salad and yoghurt sauce’, followed by the main course of ‘chicken with shrimps in a curry sauce and couscous’. Included was house wine and water. There was also an altenative Italian menu of ‘Eggplant and parma ham roll with balsamic reduction followed by ‘Farfalle with chicken, pineapple, cherry tomato, peppers and cream for those who preferred this. Mario’s presentation of the food was outstanding as has always been our personal experience of ths exceptional restaurant. The food was indeed a ‘feast for the eyes’. It truly reflects his passion for art, which is also evidently displayed in the stunning decor of this superb restaurant. ‘Gold’ is without doubt a ‘must visit’ restaurant whether you live here in Tomar, or are just visiting. You will not be disappointed”
The food is ‘Excellent ‘ and beautifully presented. There is an extensive menu ( in English too ) There is also a lovely ambience inside and the decor is classy. The seating is comfortable ( not typical of many Portuguese restaurants! ) and the host Mario is very welcoming. Do not miss a chance to sample for yourself!
