‘Birdwatchers paradise’.
The Tagus Estuary is about 20 minutes from the city of Lisbon and is a huge Nature Reserve, with an extensive area of protected wetland, which offers excellent conditions to observe of birds in their natural surroundings.This Birdwatchers paradise is the most important ‘wetland’ in Portugal and one of the most important in the whole of Europe. It is fascinating to visit at all times of the year…… in Winter there can be as many as120,000 waders, waterfowl and other aquatic birds. During migratory periods, one can expect to observe more than 100 different species in any one day and during the Summer months, the estuary is alive with breeding species that are more usually associated with the Mediterranean.
