PORTUGAL PUBLIC ‘HOLIDAYS’ 2012
If you’re planning a trip to Portugal, it is worthwhile noting the dates of the Portugese Public Holidays or ‘Feriados’. Portugal has a mixture of both Religious & Public holidays. You will find that all Banks, some shops and many public buildings such as museums will be closed on these days. Quite often the supermarkets will remain open!
A few Bars and Restaurants will close but some will remain open.
Sunday Jan 1st - New Year’s Day - ‘Ano Novo’
Tuesday 21st February - Carnaval (Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras
Thursday March 1st - TOMAR day (only in TOMAR ! )
Friday Apr 6th- Good Friday - ‘Sexta-feira Santa’
Sunday April 8th - Easter Sunday
Wednesday Apr 25th - Freedom Day - ‘Dia da Liberdade’
Tuesday May 1st - Labour Day - ‘Dia do Trabalhador’
Thursday June 7th - Corpus Christi ( to be cancelled from 2013 )
Sunday June 10th - Portugal Day - ‘Dia de Portugal de Camões’
Sunday June 24th - São João Observed widely in the north of the country, on the railways etc but not everywhere in the south.
Wednesday Aug 15th - Assumption Day - ‘Assunção de Nossa Senhora’
Friday October 5th - Republic Day - ( to be cancelled from 2013)
Thursday Nov 1st - All Saints Day - ‘Todos os Santos’ ( to be cancelled from 2013 )
Saturday Dec1st - Independence Day - ‘Restauração da Independência’ ( to be cancelled from 2013 )
Saturday Dec 8th - Feast of the Imaculate Conception - ‘Imaculada Conceição’
Tuesday Dec 25th - Christmas Day - ‘Natal’
